Apple to launch iPad in China this week

Apple (AAPL.NYSE) will begin selling its iPad tablet computer in China on Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported. It is the company’s latest move to expand its product offerings in a market that it had previously neglected. Until now, China’s consumers have bought high-priced iPads – which cost as much as US$1,000 –  from gray market traders. Apple said it will charge from US$590 for the 16-gigabyte iPad to US$826 for the 64-gigabyte model, a premium of about 18% over US prices. Apple said Monday that Wi-Fi models of the iPad will be available through its two stores in China, as well as authorized resellers. The California company plans to open 25 new Apple stores in China by the end of next year.
