Apple has reduced the lag time between the U.S. and China product
launches in an attempt to reduce the incentive for buying smuggled
and fake iPads, many running on Google’s Android OS.
Apple plans to start offering the Wi-Fi capable version of the iPad in
China on Friday.
Apple plans to sell the 16 GB version of the Wi-Fi-capable model in
China for about $590, the 32 GB model for about $708 and the 64 GB
version for about $827.
According to The Wall Street Journal network operator China Unicom has
said it is in negotiations with Apple to offer the iPad.
Apple released the iPad in the US in early April and sold 3.3 million
units by the end of June. Such sales figures lead to smugness. The
advent of a slew of competitors has perhaps put it in a more
international mode.
