Apple (AAPL) and China Unicom (CHU.NYSE, 600050.SH, 0762.HK) announced today that the iPhone 4 will officially go on sale in mainland China this Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported. Although the device has been available on the gray market on the mainland since it launched in other countries (and Hong Kong) earlier this summer, it will be officially available for sale at authorized dealers this weekend. The debut will coincide with the opening of two new Apple stores, one each in Beijing and Shanghai. The stores will be the second for each city. The phone’s 3G service will work exclusively with China Unicom, which is hoping the popular handset will help it gain market share in the world’s largest mobile market.
