Asustek expects notebooks to keep rising

Asustek ComputerAsustek Computer expects its shipments of notebook computers — including conventional laptops and netbooks — to rise 30% next year to 16 million units because of a likely increase in corporate demand.

Revenue will likely rise in tandem with the shipments’ growth, Shen said during an investors’ conference.

The company’s operating margin will likely be between 4% and 6% next year, he said. It was 5.8% in the third quarter this year.

Dow Jones reports there are those who see in the rise and rise of the netbook — smaller brother of the laptop — the eventual death of the desktop. Certainly in the size and form that it is in today.
