Taiwan-based AsusTek Computer may open a second operating base on the mainland. The Chinese-language daily Commercial Times said the new center, to be located in the southwestern city of Chongqing, will not initially produce the company’s notebook computers.
The paper reported that a letter of intent would be signed late this year or early next.
AsusTek’s notebooks are currently manufactured by the company’s first Chinese base in Shanghai, but the new facility could handle notebook orders in the future.
Focus Taiwan reported that officials of the Chongqing government had visited AsusTek to invite it to join a cluster of high-tech companies in the area.
