Authorities detain president, vice-president of People's Daily online arm

Prosecutors have detained the president and vice president of the online arm of the party mouthpiece People’s Daily, South China Morning Post reported, citing local media. The reasons for the detainment of President Liao Hong and Vice-president Chen Zhixia have not been made public, though an anonymous source cited by web portal NetEase suggested accusations against the former were similar to those against 21st Century Media Group president Shen Hao, who has been accused of extortion through journalism. Liao had also served as chief editor of the paper’s website, but was removed from the position after supporting the posting of the air pollution documentary Under the Dome, according to NetEase.
