Things are looking bleak for the country’s migrant workers. According to the State Council, 20 million migrant workers are currently out of work – twice the government’s earlier estimate – and more may join them later this year. Most workers are heading back to their farms, but some will find it difficult to grow crops this year. Currently Henan and Anhui provinces are on red-level drought alerts while Shaanxi, Shandong, Hebei, and Jiangsu’s agricultural sectors are all suffering from extraordinarily dry weather. But some things are still looking up. Airbus and Xi’an Aircraft Industry Company (XAC) signed a cooperation agreement to have Airbus’s A320 family of commercial jet wings built and tested in China. The agreement is expected to deepen the relationship between the two companies.
