The world's biggest music companies are suing Baidu, the Chinese search engine that has seen stock prices soar since its August listing on the Nasdaq, for copyright infringement, the Standard of Hong Kong reported, citing Baidu sources. Universal, EMI, Warner, Sony BMG and their local subsidiaries allege Baidu's mp3 search engine makes it easy for users to download illegal copies of their songs. The case, which will be tried in Beijing, could force the company to shut down its mp3 search engine, which accounts for much of the sites traffic.
