China’s domestic web search giant Baidu is suing its domain name registration service provider for negligence, the South China Morning Post reported. Baidu is seeking damages from Register.com following an attack on its website by a group named the Iranian Cyber Army who erected an Iranian flag on the search engine’s main page. The group appears to have mistaken Baidu for an American company because it is registered in that country, the newspaper said. The lawsuit comes amid growing tensions between Google and the Chinese authorities following Google’s claim that it was the victim of a cyber attack at the hands of Chinese hackers.
