Electric vehicles are galloping ahead worldwide – and nowhere more than in China. The key to success lies in the batteries.
China BAK Battery, a leading manufacturer of lithium-based battery cells, has worked with Chery Automobile to produce a lithium-ion battery powered car.
Batteries for electric vehicles are characterized by their relatively high power-to-weight ratio, energy-to-weight ratio and energy density; smaller, lighter batteries reduce the weight of the vehicle and improve its performance. There have already been demonstrations of lithium-ion battery powered cars doing 300 kilometers, at which point there is a massive reduction in customer resistance.
Red Orbit reports problems still remain with safety and cost, but massive demand and research can solve these. Chery and BAK are jointly working on these problems.
