Bayer (China) Ltd has signed an education co-operation agreement with Shanghai Petrochemical Academy, a provider of vocational and technical education. The German based company will allocate m1m to establish a modern laboratory, a pilot plant and a pipe assembly shop in a new building located on the school's campus in Jinshan town, south of Shanghai. Potential employees will be trained for Bayer's new polymer production site, currently under construction at the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park in Caojing. An initial 36 students will be selected to receive formal training in chemical engineering and to take part in a 12-week internship at Caojing.
Omron Corp of Japan has set up a research and development centre in Dalian, Liaoning province, to develop health products for the Chinese market, said Nikkei. It will employ 15-20 staff, who will produce blood pressure gauges and clinical thermometers. Omron sold US$13m-worth of health products in China in its last fiscal year.
