Beijing condemns Pentagon report

China criticized a Pentagon report which stated that Beijing wants to expand its regional military power, according to published reports. In turn, Beijing said it filed a protest with the US Embassy in Beijing over the report; and in asserting that it is no threat to Asia, Beijing accused Washington of looking for excuses to sell weapons to Taiwan. The report could influence future Pentagon weapons purchases by moving the American military toward more high-technology systems capable of fighting a major power.
