Beijing GDP per capita exceeded $10,000 in 2009

Zhang Gong, head of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Committee, said that Beijing’s annual GDP per capita in 2009 exceeded US$10,000, state media reported. Income for urban residents was estimated to rise 9%, and income for rural residents was expected to rise 12% as government policies and investment drove financial revenues to US$29.8 billion, an annual increase of 10.3%. Industrial value added and the service sector accounted for 73.5% of these revenues. Increased infrastructure spending in 2009 brought the length of highways in operation to 884 kilometers and traffic lines in operation to 228 km.
