Beijing metro now averaging one breakdown a week

Two morning rush-hour breakdowns on August 26 of Beijing’s metro system were just the latest of 39 to occur this year, making for an average of one breakdown a week, South China Morning Post reported. The two breakdowns hit lines in northwestern and southeastern Beijing, with the latter being a joint venture between the Beijing Mass Transit Railway Operation Corporation and Hong Kong subway operator MTR Corporation (HKG.066, ADR.MTRJY). Officials for the Beijing company said most breakdowns occur because of problems with power supply equipment or line equipment, electromechanical and communications signal equipment.
