The State Intellectual Property Office announced that the patent on the Beijing Olympics' "dancing Beijing" logo was in jeopardy of being registered to someone other than the Beijing Olympic Committee.
The Beijing Olympic Committee registered its Beijing Games designs as trademarks only, paving the way for individuals and firms to apply for the patents for the designs. Patents are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning that it is possible that the committee may have to pay for the rights to use its Games designs.
