Beijing Olympics tickets go on sale

Seven million tickets for the 2008 Beijing Olympics are now available to Chinese nationals and foreigners living in the country, Games organizers said Sunday. Orders can be made through the official website or at 1,000 designated Bank of China branches, but the tickets will not be delivered until June 2008, state media reported. Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as half the tickets for the 28 sports events are on offer in this first phase of sales, which lasts until June 30. The second phase of domestic ticket sales will run from October through December. Foreigners as well as residents in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will be able to buy tickets through their national Olympic committees or from designated outlets. Ticket prices range from US$3.50 to US$127, although 58% of tickets will be priced US$12 or less and a further 14% will go to Chinese students for US$1.3 or less. People can only buy one ticket each for the opening and closing ceremonies, two for high-demand sports sessions and three to five for other events.
