Chinese authorities have pledged to improve the rural environment and ensure food safety and security in 2014, Bloomberg reported, citing a statement published on Sunday on the State Council’s website, The statement, part of a policy document issued every January by the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council, says the government is committed to sustainable agricultural development, safe food products and reduced pollution. The government is seeking to assuage public anger sparked by incidents such as chemical spills into supplies of drinking water and the sale of tainted baby formula.
