Beijing pushing expansion abroad

Beijing is encouraging domestic firms to expand abroad. In an address to a Beijing business forum Vice Premier Wu Yi said encouraging Chinese firms to target business overseas would benefit both China's own development and global prosperity as a whole, state media reported. According to official figures, 510 companies were approved for overseas investments of US$2.09 billion in 2003, up from 350 companies and US$983 million in 2002.
