China has rejected a US report playing up the "China military threat," state media reported. The Pentagon's Quadrennial Defense Review, released last week, said China had the greatest potential to compete militarily with the United States, but Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said China posed no threat to the world. "We express firm opposition to the US defense review and have lodged a serious objection with the US." The report groundlessly blames China for its defense build-up, he said. It also whips up fears of a Chinese military threat and misleads public opinion.
