Beijing to re-open some internet cafes

[photopress:beijinginternetcafe.jpg,full,alignright]A selected number of Internet cafe owners in Beijing have been told they can re-open. Most of Beijing’s over 2,000 Internet cafes have been shut down since the June cafe fire.

(A total of 24 people were killed and 13 others injured in a cyber cafe fire in suburban Beijing in the early morning of June 16. The fire broke out at around 2:40 am in the Lanjisu Cyber Cafe located in the No.20 compound, Xueyuan Lu, Haidian District.)

Edward Zeng, CEO of Sparkice, said officials from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information Industry, and Ministry of Public Security were present at the meeting where this was announced. Edward Zeng said, ‘It was a very official meeting, only selected Internet cafe managers who have a license in the past have been called this morning.’
