Anglian Water of the UK and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation are poised to start a build-operate-transfer water project with the Beijing municipal government, reported Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The US$200m project will involve building a 75km pipeline connecting the northern and southern parts of the city, along with water procurement and purification facilities.
The foreign partners will handle all aspects of the project from construction to operation of the facilities before transferring them to Beijing in 23 years. A company will be established early next year to oversee the project, which could be completed in 2005.
