Beijing wants CNN apology over 'goons' remark

The Chinese government has demanded that news network CNN apologize to the Chinese people for "vicious" and "malicious" remarks made by commentator Jack Cafferty on one of its programs, AP reported. Cafferty said in an April 9 appearance on "The Situation Room" that China’s leaders were "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they’ve been for the last 50 years." Referring to trade with China, Cafferty also said, "We continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food and export, you know, jobs to places where you can pay workers a dollar a month to turn out the stuff that we’re buying from Wal-Mart." CNN has drawn particular criticism from some Chinese over its coverage of the Tibetan riots that broke out in March.
