Beijingers suggest ways to unjam city

Beijingers have put up suggestions on solving the traffic problem as feedback to the recently released draft plan.

While many members of the public say they are glad someone is trying to do something, few believe the draft plan would solve the problem.

Architectural design director Morten Holm suggested that public figures show the way by abandoning their black government cars and climbing onto bicycles.

Another suggestion was that bus and subway stations should set up electronic billboards showing the flow of passengers at different times of the day so people could plan their trips for less busy times.

English.Eastday.com quoted Filip Klippel, who is working toward his MBA in renewables and environment at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing, as saying, "Ordinary people are still adding a lot of new cars to the street every day. I think this is the main problem – people just want to have cars."
