Beijing's new regulations tighten Internet control

In an effort to control the ever-expanding number of Internet-users, China issued new regulations to censor content on its news websites, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing state media. The report said, "The sites are prohibited from spreading news and information that goes against state security and public interest," but did not give details of the new rules. The state also recently began monitoring cyber-cafes, where most of China's 100 million Internet-users access the web, more closely, by installing surveillance cameras and requiring customers to register with official ID cards.
