The country has suffered its seventh human bird flu fatality as state media announced Wednesday that a woman in southwestern China had died from the disease. The 29 year-old woman, surnamed Cao, tested positive for the H5N1 strain of the virus on January 17, having been admitted to hospital in Chengdu in Sichuan province on January 12 suffering from fever and pneumonia-like symptoms. The World Health Organization said Cao worked in a shop selling dry goods and there was no evidence linking her to exposure to infected birds. State media reported that all those who had come into close contact with Cao had been placed under observation.
