Chinese officials confirmed that a girl who recently died in a Hunan town where there had been an outbreak of bird flu succombed to pneumonia, not the H5N1 virus, Reuters reported. If the tests for bird flu had proved positive it would have been China's first reported human death from the potentially fatal avian disease.
