
The BlackBerry for China will be customised to China’s 3G wireless technology, TD-SCDMA. But China Market Research warned that BlackBerry would struggle to gain traction in a market where consumers prefer text and instant messaging over mobile e-mail.
ABC News said that an announcement emailed to reporters by the two companies said their agreement would "help RIM further expand its business in China" by giving RIM access to Digital China’s national distribution network.
Note that there already many BlackBerry knock-offs made in China and available there and elsewhere. These almost certainly will not work with the new network.
