At least twelve people were injured Monday in an explosion at the Dragon Aromatics chemical plant in Zhangzhou, Fujian province, the second at the the plant since 2013, The New York Times reported. The force of the blast, which ignited three storage tanks, could be felt for miles around, and flames continued to burn through the evening, according to a Xinhua report. The plant produces paraxylene, also known as PX, a chemical used in the manufacture of plastics and polyester that has been the target of large environmental protests in China after local resistance in the coastal metropolis of Xiamen forced the plant further inland.
