BMW (BMW.ETR) will start delivering its all-electric i3 sedan and plug-in hybrid i8 sports car in China starting this September, Reuters reported, citing a statement by BMW China president Karsten Engel. Trialing in four cities with a sales cap of 1,000 vehicles, the cars will be priced lower than expected, starting at US$72,000 (RMB450,000). China has set a target of putting 5 million electric or hybrid vehicles on the country’s roads by 2020, and Engel says he expects China to become the world’s largest market for electric mobility within five years.
