Boeing plans China biofuel test flight

Boeing (BA.NYSE) is planning to test a commercial-jet biofuel in China as part of a wider plan to commercialize cleaner fuels, the Wall Street Journal reported. The test is expected to be conducted in May or June 2011 and will be the aircraft maker’s sixth demonstration flight using biofuel. Boeing first conducted a test flight using biofuel on a Virgin Atlantic 747 in 2008. The China-based test, in conjunction with Air China (0573.HK, 601111.SH), will use fuel based on jatropha that will be supplied by PetroChina (601857.SH, 0857.HK), which grows the shrub in China’s southern provinces.
