[photopress:Place_Hotel_and_Star.jpg,full,alignright]A luxury hotel scheduled to open for business in 2008 in Shanghai will possibly set a new record in average room prices. China News Service reports The Place Hotel & Spa is expected to charge an average price of US$350 a night, which is somewhat more expensive than the current US$220 average among Shanghai’s five-star hotels.
The hotel will be in the downtown Jing’an District tucked within a group of high-end hotels, including the Hilton and Portman Ritz-Carlton.
Chen Minghuang, chief representative of the hotel developer, calls it a ’boutique hotel,’ a term used to describe intimate and extremely luxurious, and, sadly, expensive hotels. The hotel will only have 230 rooms.
