'Breakthrough' in US-China negotiations

China agreed to negotiate an all-encompassing investment treaty with the US coming off of two days of high-level talks in Washington, Bloomberg reported. “The commitment made today stands to be a significant breakthrough and marks the first time China has agreed to negotiate a bilateral investment treaty, to include all sectors and stages of investment, with another country,” US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said in a statement Thursday. Also during the summit, officials discussed a free trade zone in Shanghai, the US pressed China to acknowledge the serious threat of trade secret theft and China cautioned the US on scaling back on quantitative easing, an anonymous Treasury official said.
