Coinciding with Chinese president Hu Jintao's visit, British engineering consultant Arup signed an agreement with the Shanghai Industrial Investment Corporation (SIIC) to develop a master-plan for three new cities, the AFP reported, citing British Prime Minister Tony Blair's office. The agreement with SIIC expands on its August contract to develop the world's first sustainable city, Dongtan, in China. Under the new agreement, Arup would develop a total of three sustainable cities. Dongtan Eco-City will initially house 20,000 people and the 88 square kilometer site would be ready in time for the Shanghai Expo 2010. The value of the contract was not reported.
