It was bound to come and is a logical extension of the use of electronic tagging. China Airlines has successfully tested a new paperless import customs clearance system in association with the Taipei Customs Office.
The system was successfully tested on CAL flight CI-722 from Kuala Lumpur to Taoyuan International Airport on December 1. This is a very logical progression and CAL is to be congratulated on being first cab off the rank.
A fully paperless import and export cargo clearance procedure is inevitable worldwide and, by this time next year, will be commonplace and the year after standard operating procedure.
Asia Travel Tips said CAL will work to expand paperless cargo import clearance capability to other major routes in the near future. So will every other major airline.
