China produced 179,200 cars in June, 83 per cent more than in the same month of last year
and 13 per cent more than in May, according to figures released by the National Bureau of
Statistics. Output over the first six months doubled to 903,400, which almost matched the 1.06m produced in the whole of 2002.
Merrill Lynch analyst Grace Mak said she expected production capacity growth to outpace demand growth in the next two years as manufacturers strive for greater market share in China.
