Cargo rising in Shanghai

Shanghai port’s cargo throughput last month grew by double digits for the first time this year, reflecting a rise in exports.

Shanghai Daily has reported a strong increase in cargo at Shanghai port.

Shanghai International Port Group, the city’s port operator states that cargo throughput totalled 30.7 million tons in November, a rise of 19.06% from the same month last year.

Note that November’s throughput fell from 31.2 million tons in October.

 
Container throughput totalled 2.2 million TEUs, down 3.33% from a year ago and the smallest monthly drop this year. But the throughput was a rise of 16% from 1.9 million TEUs in January this year.
 
Shanghai handled a total of 22.6 million TEUs in the first 11 months of this year, a drop of 12.28% from the same period last year.
 
CargoNews Asia reported the port handled a total of 296 million tons of dry bulk goods in the same period, down 14% from a year ago.
Shanghai’s port handled 28 million TEUs in 2008, a rise of 7% from the previous year.
