Cargo throughput declined 1.9% in April y-o-y

A report issued by the Ministry of Transport Wednesday said that cargo throughput at main ports in China reached 500 million tons in April, down 1.9% year-on-year, state media reported. Daily throughput increased 3.2% from March. Domestic throughput increased 0.1% year-on-year, but foreign throughput declined by 6% to 160 million tons due to declining foreign demand. Seaborne container throughput at main ports in China was 9.2 million containers, a 13.4% drop from a year earlier. The ministry attributes domestic growth figures to the effects of the stimulus plan rippling through the economy.
