Carlson Hotels has said it plans to double its presence in China within the next three years, primarily by focusing on key secondary and tertiary cities.
The group has nine properties, totaling more than 2,600 rooms, under development for its Radisson Hotels & Resorts and Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts brands.
Carlson also operates three other hotel brands throughout Asia Pacific; Regent Hotels & Resorts, Park Inn and Country Inns & Suites By Carlson.
Jean-Marc Busato, managing director — Asia Pacific, Carlson Hotels Worldwide said, ‘While we continue to value new opportunities in tier one cities, the lack of branded hotels in many of China’s secondary and tertiary cities which are on a rapid growth trajectory, calls for us to grow our presence in these less traditional markets.’
Asia Travel Tips reported that in the first quarter of this year, Carlson signed three new agreements to manage hotels in some of China’s fastest growing cities — Shenyang, Chongqing and Sanya.
Scheduled to open in 2012, Radisson Plaza Hotel Shenyang Hunnan will be a 320-room property located in the city’s Central Business District and close to the Shenyang International Exhibition Centre.
The hotel in Chongqing will be a 300-room property located in Nan Bin Road, the city’s street for shopping and nightlife. Radisson Plaza Hotel Chongqing Nan Bin Lu is expected to open at the end of 2010.
More recently, Carlson announced that it will manage a second Radisson hotel in Sanya Bay which will have 415 rooms and will be located at the intersection of Yue Jin Road and Sheng Li Road, close to Sanya city.
Carlson also earlier announced that it will manage a Radisson Plaza hotel in Sanya on the Lu Hui Tou peninsular, the Radisson Plaza Hotel Sanya Lu Hui Tou.
