The original idea reported this week by several newspapers was that the China Air Transport Association wants airlines to compensate passengers who are forced to wait for their flights for at least eight hours.
Apparently that did not sit well with all the airlines concerned because now the China Air Transport Association is saying a proposal asking airlines to pay passengers for delayed flights is still being finalized.
An official named Yang from the association said they have not imposed any compensation rule on airlines or airports in the country. She said the association is soliciting opinions from different airlines about the compensation issue, and a standard will only be issued afterward.
Earlier reports said passengers could receive up to RMB300 (US$45) in cash if they waited for at least eight hours.
Global Times quoted Yang as saying, "We still need further discussion about the details."
