Cashing in on the 2008 Beijing Olympics

[photopress:olympic_1.jpg,full,alignright]When China hosts the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it hopes to also to generate record revenues for its hotels and expect occupancy rates to soar. The hotel industry is making outstanding efforts to improve quality of service as the city expects hundreds of thousands of tourists to watch the different Olympic events.

Xiong Yumai, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Tourism said, ‘Beijing’s hospitality industry has experienced rapid growth in the last two years, and the momentum will continue in the lead-up to and even after the Olympics.’

Already occupancy rates in hotels in Beijing remains high with five-star hotels registering the highest average daily revenue even if they charge $150 per day. High-end hotels enjoy an occupancy rate of 75.3 percent.

The city of Beijing is estimating some 500,000 foreign and 1 million domestic tourists in 2008.
