No date for issuing 3G licenses

Xi Guohua, vice-minister of information industry, said the government was still undecided on the question of when to issue 3G high-speed mobile service licenses. The National Business Daily last month reported that the government might issue licenses for RMB20 bn each to China Mobile, China Netcom and China Telecom.

Jury duty with a vengeance

Some 27,000 jurors will officially report for duty May 1 as China launches its new jury trial system. Unlike in the West, where juries are selected on a trial by trial basis, China's jurors will sit for five-year terms — in panels of three — to work with judges weighing both criminal and civil cases.
