Chinese battery producer Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) has begun testing humanoid robots on its own production lines, reports Caixin. The humanoid robots were developed by an affiliated startup.
The world’s largest maker of power and energy storage batteries said the robots are being used to perform inspection tasks on battery pack assembly lines, marking a new application beyond its core electric vehicle business.
The humanoid robots are developed by Spirit AI Robotics, a startup founded in February 2024 that has raised about RMB 1.3 billion ($185 million) through three funding rounds. One of its investors is Borui Capital, founded by CATL co-founder and vice chairman Li Ping.
