Censors pull popular Chinese dramas from top streaming sites

China’s media regulator has forced top mainland video streaming sites to pull popular original dramas key to pulling in paid subscribers, The Wall Street Journal reported. Sources close to streaming platforms Le.com and iqiyi.com said the shows had been taken down due to vulgar, bloody or superstitious content, though the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television has yet to comment on the matter. Among the shows pulled were Le.com’s gender-swapping time-travel drama “Go Princess Go,” which as of last week had been viewed more than 2.4 million times and generated considerable buzz on social media.
