Changan Ford Mazda Automobile has applied to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) to recall 236,643 Focus model sedans over a stalling problem, state media reported. The recall covers vehicles produced between August 18, 2008 to May 28 of this year. The recall was prompted by customer complaints about stalling at low speeds. Changan Ford Mazda said that the problem was caused by the engine software, and that it will provide updated software free of charge. The recall was initially announced by the GAQSIQ, but was subsequently confirmed by a statement on the company website. Changan Ford Mazda is a joint venture between Ford (F.NYSE), Chongqing Changan Automobile (200625.SHE) and Mazda Motor (7261.TYO).
