Chery launches sales of M1 electric car

Chery Automobile launched sales of its M1-EV electric car at an electric car show in Shenzhen, the South China Morning Post reported. Chery says the fully electric M1 can travel 110 kilometers on a single charge and has a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The car costs between RMB149,800 and RMB229,800 (US$22,500-34,530), but will sell for as little as RMB60,000 with government subsidies. The company began taking orders in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Hefei, Anhui, and plans to make its first deliveries by the end of the year. The launch of the M1 comes as sales of rival BYD’s e6 electric sedan continue to face delays in China. Honda announced last week that it would begin producing advanced hybrid cars in China to make them more accessible and affordable locally.
