China accuses US of "serious" human rights violations

China criticized the US for engaging in human rights violations and told Washington to rectify them before "wantonly trampling on the sovereignty of other countries". In its annual Human Rights Record of the United States, China focused on the treatment of the Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers and blasted Washington for failing to deal with the problems of crime and racial discrimination at home. The report was published following the United States' own annual human rights report, which accused China of undemocratic governance.
