The White House on Monday said China’s so-called air defense identification zone was “unnecessarily inflammatory”, Reuters reported. Beijing said on Saturday that airlines traveling within the airspace, which includes the disputed Diaoyu Islands, must inform China. “There are regional disputes in that part of the world and those are disputes that should be resolved diplomatically,” Josh Earnest, the White House spokesman, said. The US has said it will not adhere to the new rules. Tension over the uninhabited islands has strained ties between the two countries in recent months and both Japan and the United States have criticized the Chinese government’s latest move.
