China has pledged to donate US$2.2 million to help in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, state media reported. China’s special envoy to the Middle East, Sun Bigan, announced the donation at an international donors’ conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The donation, to be used for rebuilding primary schools in Gaza, is in addition to US$1 million in aid already donated to Palestinians. "China will continue to support and join in international efforts on promoting peace [in the Middle East], and make contribution to the Middle East peace cause," said Sun.
