China approves Copenhagen accord

China has finally added its name to the Copenhagen agreement on voluntary limits on greenhouse gas emissions, AP reported. Su Wei, China’s top climate change negotiator, gave permission to add China to the list of countries that support US President Barack Obama’s non-binding accord, which was brokered by the US president in the final hours of December’s summit in Denmark. China’s agreement follows that of India, who said on Monday that it "stands by the contents of the accord". More than 100 countries have been asked to associate themselves with the accord, but the delayed response from the world’s two fastest growing polluters had caused concern.  The US hopes that the Copenhagen deal, which ended up being drastically watered-down, will serve as a basis for a new agreement at the next climate change summit in Cancun, Mexico.
