While key European Union member countries continue mulling a possible lifting of the 15-year arms embargo against China, the EU's foreign policy head called the embargo "unfair", arguing the event leading to the sanction "China's 1989 Tiananmen Square clampdown on democracy protestors" happened long ago. Germany and France still seek to end the embargo, while Britain, Sweden and others have expressed ambivalence, particularly after the Mainland's new anti-secession law authorizing a military attack on Taiwan.
